Where the shaft exits the motor, the front cover has to hold two things at once: the front bearing, and the oil seal that keeps grease from escaping down the shaft. Get the bore off-center or the seal face flatness wrong, and the motor starts weeping lubricant onto the floor. We cast front covers with a true bearing seat and a sealing surface machined flat, so grease stays in and dust and moisture stay out.
